Molecular marker-assisted selection for seedlessness in atemoya breeding

Perennial plant breeding is an expensive and time-consuming process, mainly due to the extended growth time for juveniles. In these cases, use of molecular marker-assisted selection (MMAS) allows a characteristic interest at seed or seedling stages. The objective this work was characterize segregation INO locus MMAS early seedless genotypes atemoya 'Gefner' [(G; Annona cherimola Mill. × squamosa L.) Brazilian (Bs; squamosa)]. After primer validation MMAS, 24 plants F2 population were selected designated as candidate absence seeds, alleles absent in them. For further studies on programs species, 53 heterozygous seedlings considered genetic resources during selection.
